Operating sustainably

A company is more than just the products it makes. How it makes its products is just as important. At SC Johnson, we work hard to operate in ways that are responsible and sustainable. From investing in renewable energy to reducing waste in our operations, we’re actively working to help protect the planet for future generations.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to reducing our carbon emissions, energy consumption and waste; accelerating the transition to a circular economy; and helping drive sustainability efforts that deliver lasting change.

“As a global company, you think about your footprint in all the places you operate and how to minimize your impact. Leading the industry in an environmentally responsible manner starts at home.”

Our commitment on carbon

We’ve reduced our greenhouse gas emissions 71% since 2000, and we’re continuing to implement innovative strategies and practices to further reduce our carbon footprint. Today, 45% of our energy consumption comes from renewable sources.

SC Johnson has long embraced renewable energy, powering its largest factory with wind, landfill gas, and natural gas. In 2019, Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson reaffirmed the company's ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Our commitment on deforestation

SC Johnson has been partnering with NGOs for decades to help protect the environment and preserve forests. We work with our suppliers and stakeholders to ensure materials for our products are sourced sustainably.

Our commitment on waste reduction

By 2050, the UN Environment Programme estimates the world will produce 3.8 billion tonnes of waste per year. That's a legacy we want to avoid for future generations, and it’s why waste reduction has been a priority at SC Johnson for decades.
