We’re Working to Help Protect Communities around the Globe

We’re committed to helping fight insect-borne disease, and a key target of our efforts is the communities where these diseases hit the hardest.

Reaching communities around the globe.

While SC Johnson has been helping protect families from insects and the diseases they may carry since 1956, in 2013 we created the Healthier World Initiative, which focuses on preventing insect-borne disease for the world’s most vulnerable people.

The team’s focus is the more than 4 billion people globally that earn less than a few dollars (USD) per day, sometimes referred to as the “base of the pyramid.” These communities often live in areas where insect- borne diseases hit the hardest.

To help, our Healthier World Initiative team spends time with families in affected communities. We learn how they live their lives, what they value and what they aspire to. We learn their daily routines, how their family and community operate, and what challenges they face.

Ultimately these are the connections that help us create actionable solutions that best fit into families’ lives.

We are dedicated to improving lives for families around the world in communities of all sizes and socio-economic levels.

Helping families

These are just a few of the people our Healthier World Initiative has gotten to know in their work to understand and assist in the fight against mosquito-borne disease.

Sonia and Amina

Every member of Sonia’s family has been affected by malaria. Amina’s family fled to the Kawar Maila Internal Displaced Persons Camp in Borno State, where malaria is the highest cause of reported morbidity and mortality.

Ko Thein

Ko lives in a village near the Myanmar border and works overnight tapping rubber trees to support his wife and six children. His work puts him outside when mosquitoes are at their peak biting activity.

Anna

Anna’s community sits alongside a river, where rising water signals the beginning of mosquito season. She needs protection solutions that are accessible and affordable, and fit into her family’s routines.

How SC Johnson is at work to help end malaria
Helping safeguard communities in the fight against malaria

Using entomological expertise, SC Johnson has developed tools like SC Johnson Guardian™ that can significantly reduce the presence of mosquitoes in homes.

Bringing care closer for families in Rwanda

Each year, over half a million people in Africa die from malaria. SC Johnson is helping take down malaria by building up Africa’s healthcare network with local clinics.
