How SC Johnson Celebrates and Creates Opportunities for Women
Since our earliest days, people have been at the core of SC Johnson’s purpose. That is why we have long put a priority on supporting women and working families. While local programmes vary to reflect needs around the globe, the goal is the same: giving SC Johnson people the opportunity to thrive at work and at home.
In 2020, SC Johnson was named to Working Mother’s list of 100 Best Companies for the 32nd time, reflecting three decades of inclusive benefits and support for women and families. This includes basic support like maternity, paternity and adoption leave, flexible work schedules, and affordable childcare, but also opportunities for career growth, such as reimbursement for advanced degrees earned while working at the company.
As it became clear that the COVID-19 pandemic was disproportionately affecting working women, SC Johnson expanded benefits to further support families, such as providing access to resources from tutors and homework helpers to babysitters and elder care planning.
We also actively worked to protect and assist women and families around the world.
As the pandemic exacerbated challenges like access to health services, nutrition and education, we established programmes with Save the Children and Sesame Workshop to give support to parents and carers around the globe.
And through our partnership with Plastic Bank, we enable plastic collectors in Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil – many of whom are women – to substantially boost their incomes.
We also have been working to raise awareness about human trafficking and its devastating impact on women and families. In everything that we do, and in every market, SC Johnson has a long-standing zero-tolerance policy for human trafficking and slavery.
To help raise more awareness of these devastating issues, in 2019, we sponsored the U.K. theatrical release of “Love Sonia,” a film inspired by the real-life events of a young girl’s attempts to rescue her sister from the dangerous world of human trafficking. We also hosted exclusive screenings of the film in the United States.
In 2020, we donated $100,000 to help the anti-trafficking NGO (non-governmental organisation) Apne Aap provide food to victims of human trafficking in India amid the added challenges of the pandemic.
Apne Aap Founder and CEO Ruchira Gupta when awarding SC Johnson “The Last Girl” award for its sponsorship of “Love Sonia” said, “We are grateful for the support of Fisk [Johnson] and SC Johnson toward our cause to end human trafficking. Our partnership has created widespread awareness and sparked a positive dialogue on how everyone can do their part to advance and protect basic human rights.”
