Dave from Oak Brook
My family was at my brother's house for a visit (we brought bagels) and, my then 6 year-old daughter, who is a notoriously finicky eater, asked for some butter on her bagel. I got some butter from the refridgerator and spread it on her bagel. She took one bite and scrunched up her face and said, "This tastes bad." Thinking she was just being fussy about a different brand of butter, I started scolding her about being so finicky, inflexible, etc. Just then my sister-in-law came into the kitchen and said, "Oh, don't use that butter, it is rancid. I've been meaning to throw it out." Ever since then, whenever I unjustly scold/accuse/etc the children, they call it a "Butter Incident."
