Six Summer Reading Programs For Kids | Family Economics

#1 – Half Price Books
The free reading program at Half Price Books begins June 1 and runs until July 31. Kids ages 14 and under who read 300 or more minutes during each month can earn a $5 Half Price books shopping card. Click here for more information and to find a Half Price Books location near you.
# 2 – Chuck E. Cheese
This summer, your kids can earn 10 free tokens for each reading reward calendar they fill out and turn in to their local Chuck E. Cheese. Follow the below instructions:
1. Download and print the Reading Rewards calendar.
2. Mark the days off with a pen or sticker as your child accomplishes their goals
3. Bring it in completed to Chuck E. Cheese and receive 10 free tokens as a reward.
#3 – Bookworm Wednesdays
During the summer, your kids can watch free movies at participating Showcase Cinemas, Multiplex Cinemas or Cinema de Lux box office in exchange for a book report they wrote. Accompanying parents or guardians and children under six also receive free admission. Click here for more information.
#4 – Sylvan Book Adventure
Sylvan Book Adventure is a free reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes. #5 – Scholastic Summer Challenge
Last summer, students around the world logged 64,213,141 minutes reading. Your child can help set a new world record this year by joining the Scholastic Summer Challenge and logging their reading minutes to the Scholastic site. Click here for more information and to sign up.
#6 – Old Spaghetti Factory Summer Reading Program
