Recipe Card Wreath | Family Economics

By Cathe

I never pass up a recipe box at the flea market, thrift store or garage sale and can almost always find one in the kitchen of an estate sale. They are often filled with lovely old handwritten recipes that are not only fun to read and tempting to make, but are wonderful elements for crafting vintage décor. Maybe you have a collection handed down to you from your family.

Here’s a simple and quick craft project that is great for displaying some of your favorites recipes without damaging them. This project also works with other paper goods such as vintage post cards, decorative playing cards, greeting cards and more.

Materials

•    One 12” pressed board wreath form. My form has an outer diameter of 12 inches and inner diameter of 9 inches. You can create your own from scrap cardboard by tracing around plates or bowls from your cabinet.

•    18-20 3” x 5” vintage recipe cards (or other paper goods)

•    18-20 1” bulldog clips. I found vintage-style 1” hinge clips in the scrapbook section of the craft store.

recipe card wreathTo Make

1.    Attach the center end of a recipe card to the inside edge of the wreath form with a bulldog clip.

2.    Slightly overlap or tuck under a second card and clip with both recipe card titles showing.

3.    Continue clipping the remaining cards around the center of the wreath form. Make spacing adjustments if necessary.

4.    Place on a small nail in the wall to hang.

Recipe card wreaths not only make unique kitchen décor, but also make wonderful gifts. If you’re limited on cards and want to make several projects, simply scan your cards, print to cardstock paper and trim out. For more recipe card décor ideas, read my post at Right@Home.

What other type of paper or vintage materials would you make a wreath from?

Really like this idea...We have a Christmas Bazaar coming up...I thought add rickrack or decorative ribbon to outside edges, possibly weave ribbon through clips and make a pretty bow...Thanks for sharing.

I'm a wreath nut and this is just too too cute. How about those "I can't throw away that card" wreath. Being "older" I have a "few" of those from years gone by. Thanks for the "starting point".
