Family Information Organizer | Family Economics

By Trisha

Do you ever find yourself searching for that birthday party invitation, gift card you received or tickets to an upcoming event? How about the bills you need to mail, let alone pay?

To help keep these items organized, I use a tabletop organizer made from a desktop file box. This system helps me to keep all of my family’s most important information at my fingertips. It can easily be placed on your desk, kitchen counter or other easy-to-access locations in your home.

To create a tabletop family organizer, you will need the following:

•    Desktop file box
•    Stack of files
•    File labels

Next, decide which files you want to include in your organizer:

•    Household To-dos: This file helps to store and organize the everyday things that need to be done to keep your household in working order. From thank you cards that need to be written to warranties that need to be registered, keeping everything in one place will help to ensure they are organized and ready to complete.

•    To Pay:  This file will help you keep your current monthly bills all in one place.

•    Upcoming Events: This file is for your tickets, invites, driving directions and flyers for any upcoming parties, community events or activities.

•    Daily Deals:  Keep track of all the daily deals you purchase by printing them out and storing them in this file. This file also makes it easy to look through them on a regular basis to ensure the deals get used prior to their expiration.

How do you keep your family’s important documents organized?

This is great! I also keep a file which holds my shopping lists. We're forever saying, "Next time we're at Target let's pick up X." Then we get there are can't remember what it was! Inside my file we keep lists for each of the stores we frequently visit. Thanks for your tips!
