Back-to-School Deals and Resources | Family Economics

By Erin

back to school

It’s that time of year again. That time when most of us get overly excited by deals on scissors and crayons.  My kids love to have their new pencils, erasers, scissors and glue kept neatly in their plastic supplies box. I also use back-to-school shopping to find great deals on office supplies for my home office. I love having my desk organized and fully stocked.

Remember, you don’t just have to buy for your immediate needs. Back-to-school shopping is a great opportunity to stock up on supplies that you and your kids will need throughout the year. Below are a few resources that will help you find the best deals each week!

1.    Back-to-School Supply Price Comparison Database: All the products on sale each week are added to Savings Lifestyle School Supply Price Comparison Database, making it easy to figure out if you’re getting the best deal.

2.    Money Saving Bloggers: Follow the back-to-school deals on your favorite money saving blogs. Bloggers will list the best, rock bottom prices, along with any available coupons. There are hundreds of these bloggers out there, so just do a quick internet search to find a few to start following.

3.    Retailer Websites and Circulars: Look before you shop. Don’t just scour the newspaper for the best deals in your area. Make sure you look on major retailer’s websites for deals as well.

4.    Discount stores, grocery stores, thrift stores: Don’t forget to look for deals on supplies at discount stores, thrift stores and even grocery stores. At present, name brand crayons are least expensive at the grocery store. Be sure to scour the racks at thrift stores for back to school deals. Consider shopping just after school starts, as big box retailers will send their overstock to thrift stores to sell for less.

How are you saving money this year during back-to-school shopping?
