What does it mean to be “a family company?”
It means that SC Johnson has been owned and led by the Johnson family for five generations. Fisk Johnson, our current Chairman and CEO, is the great-great-grandson of the company’s founder. Being a family company also means we put core values – such as integrity, respect, fairness and trust – above everything else. No. While we share a similar name, we are two completely different companies. The Johnsons of SC Johnson are not related to the Johnsons of Johnson & Johnson.
Is SC Johnson affiliated with JohnsonDiversey?
JohnsonDiversey is one of the four separate companies controlled by the Johnson family, all of which are headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin. The other three companies are SC Johnson, Johnson Financial Group, and Johnson Outdoors, Inc. JohnsonDiversey began as part of SC Johnson, years ago, and was focused on commercial cleaning products and systems. In 1999, it separated from SC Johnson, becoming a stand-alone company called Johnson Wax Professional. In 2002, it acquired DiverseyLever to become JohnsonDiversey Inc. In 2009, along with a recapitalization deal to enable further growth, the company announced it will transition to the name Diversey, Inc. How does SC Johnson measure the environmental impact of its products?
In 2001, we created our patented Greenlist™ process to help our scientists understand the impact of different ingredients. They use the process to make choices that protect people and the planet, while maintaining the high performance of our products.
Does SC Johnson disclose its product ingredients?
Yes, in March 2009 we announced that SC Johnson would voluntarily launch an ingredient disclosure program for our home cleaning and air care products such as Windex®, Shout® and Glade®. Making information about the ingredients in our products readily accessible and easy to understand helps our consumers know they can continue to trust our products. We set aside 5% of pre-tax profits globally for corporate giving. Around the world, our subsidiary companies contribute an average of 2% of pre-tax profits. Over the past 10 years, SC Johnson’s worldwide philanthropic contributions have surpassed $180 million.
