Creating Wind Power in Holland
In 2009, we’ll complete a wind turbine near our Europlant manufacturing site that will produce about 6.1 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year. It’s expected to eliminate about 3,900 tons of carbon dioxide annually and use 655,000 kilograms less coal.

A Hybrid Sales Fleet
Our fleet program for U.S. sales employees focuses on a single car option: the Toyota Prius, a hybrid model. Fleet cars are being replaced on a 3-year basis until the fleet averages 40 mpg - a target we hope to reach by the end of 2010.
Conserving Water During Off-Hours
Shutting down decorative fountains at SC Johnson United Kingdom during nights and weekends saves 34,000 kWh of energy per year.
Buying Green Electricity in Michigan
In 2008, we signed an agreement to source 46% of the electricity for our Bay City, Michigan factory from wind energy. This keeps 29,500 tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere annually.
Building Conservation Interest
We made a $20,000 contribution to support the Tayna Center for Conservation Biology in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which trains the next generation of conservationists there.
Eliminating Phtalates
Since summer 2008, SC Johnson has been working with our suppliers to phase out phthalates from fragrances they supply for our products.
Volunteering with Children
SC Johnson South Africa employees volunteered at an orphanage, cleaning the facility and playing with the children.
Providing Earthquake Relief
Following the devastating earthquake in China in May of 2008, SC Johnson made a $50,000 contribution to support victims and rushed cases of Raid® coils and OFF!® repellents to the Sichuan province to help protect those who had lost their homes and those working on relief efforts.
Malaria Education in Ghana
Our two-region malaria awareness pilot with the Ghana Community Health Nurses included information and education about malaria prevention. About 200 people were trained and then offered educational sessions that reached over 8,000 people.
Building Awareness in Brazil
SC Johnson Brazil took part in the government's Dengue Day with interactive street demonstrations that reached about 74,000 people.
A Place for Every Child
We added a wing to our Childcare Learning Center in Racine, Wisconsin, ensuring we'll continue to have space for employees' children without a waiting list.
Education Made Fun
We sponsored the first-ever Raid® Malaria Limpopo Schools Sports Tournament. The two-day event brought together 16 schools for sports tournaments interspersed with education about malaria prevention. Almost 8,000 people attended and received protection information and product samples.

During a dengue and yellow fever epidemic, SC Johnson Paraguay provided samples of OFF!® insect repellents in parks and other public places.
PVC-Free Packaging
In 2002, we stopped using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in our packaging — on a worldwide basis — because it is not biodegradable and has been linked to health problems and other issues.
Better Ingredient Choices
Using our Greenlist™ process, we reformulated Raid® ant powder worldwide with a new active ingredient to eliminate the use of the insecticide propoxur.

Reusing Plastic in Ziploc® Products
Scrap plastic from Ziploc® manufacturing is sold to a local recycler, who then turns it into resin pellets. We then buy back the pellets that meet our quality standards, and use them to produce bags. Up to 2% of the resin in Ziploc® brand bags is our own recycled scrap saved from production waste.
Muscling Up Mr. Muscle®
SC Johnson reformulated Mr. Muscle Shower Shine® bathroom cleaner with the Greenlist™ process for increased biodegradability — 98% in standard tests.
